Hospital Emergency Medicine

Treatment is focused on the immediate decision-making and action necessary to prevent death or any further disability; immediate initial recognition and evaluation of acute illness or injury and the provision of appropriate short-term care and treatment.

Emergency physicians are responsible for initiating investigations and interventions to diagnose and/or treat patients in the acute phase (including initial resuscitation and stabilization), coordinating care with physicians from other specialties, and making decisions regarding a patient’s need for hospital admission, observation, or discharge.
